From Prompt to Skill: How To Build A Morning Briefing w/ Claude For Finance Professionals

Learn how to build a morning briefing with Claude, straight from a spreadsheet, a CRM, and a billing system, into something you can run every day.

Who this is for

If you're in finance, your morning probably starts with a dozen tabs open before you can answer one real question. The close calendar. What got paid overnight. What's past due. What moved in the pipeline. If that's your morning, this is for you.

If you're the one who signs off on what your team brings you, or who'd have to tell an auditor how a number was put together, you should come too.

What you'll actually see

No slides. Andy opens Claude with four sources already connected: a Google Sheet, an Excel file on his laptop, a CRM, and a billing system. He asks for one page back. Numbers, what's flagged, who he owes an email to today.

Then he disconnects one of the four sources on purpose, because most people watching won't have four either. You'll see whether the output says what it couldn't reach or quietly fills the gap.

The billing system is Turnstile. That's what we use, so that's what's plugged in. It's a data source in this build, not the subject of it, and nobody's going to pitch you.

What you'll walk away with

  • The difference between a prompt and a skill.
  • The starter prompt Andy uses, so you can build your own version this week.
  • How to save it and run it, so tomorrow morning you just ask for the briefing instead of spelunking through your emails and tools.
  • The recording, whether or not you make it live.

FAQ

Do I need to be technical? No. Andy builds it by typing plain sentences. There's no code on screen at any point.

Do I have to participate? It's watch-only, so you won't be put on the spot. There are a couple of polls and a live Q&A at the end. Use them or don't.

What would it take to do this at my own company?
Depends on the source. A spreadsheet takes a minute. A CRM or a billing system takes longer. The starter prompt is written to work on one source, which is where most people should start anyway.

Is my data safe?
You're watching, so nothing of yours is connected during the session. If you build your own afterward, what a connection can and can't see is worth checking with your own IT before you point it at anything real.
